mig_smart 50 honoree logoMagnus International Group has won its 13th award for manufacturing innovation and management excellence with an inaugural Corporate College Smart 50 honor. Presented by Smart Business, the Smart 50 Awards recognize top executives who lead 50 of the most savvy, successful companies in Northeast Ohio.

Magnus co-owners Eric Lofquist and Scott Forster will accept the award on May 22 at a black-tie optional celebration at Corporate College East in Warrensville Heights. The company is also nominated for a Smart 50 specialty award in the innovation category.

Scott represented Magnus at a judging event for this additional honor, where he fielded questions about the company’s groundbreaking advances in natural products manufacturing and how those accomplishments have positively impacted sales, employment and business continuity.

The judges were impressed with the company’s ability to differentiate itself from the competition and with how Magnus has diversified its products and services with the construction of a one-of-a-kind, multimillion-dollar prill tower.

The prill tower can produce a variety of renewable products, including unique natural animal feed ingredients. Magnus companies also develop and manufacture natural industrial and consumer waxes, and alternative liquid fuels.

The company creates these renewable products by recovering reusable food industry raw materials such as fats, oils and greases that are often otherwise landfill-bound.

Magnus uses innovative, proprietary separation systems, and exclusive hydrogenation and distillation techniques to produce materials for some of the world’s leading food industry and consumer products organizations.

There are only about 12 oleochemical plants in the U.S. and none are known to operate as uniquely and flexibly as Magnus in transforming vegetable oils, animal fats and naturally derived emulsions into sustainable global products.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating with other smart companies and to hearing about their successes. Events like these always leave us feeling inspired, and we’re thankful to Smart Business for initiating such recognition programs,” says Scott. “Above all, we’re grateful to our employees and partners, without whom we simply wouldn’t be here.”
